Kayla Mueller: American Hostage Refused Freedom To Help Yazidi Girls, Was Raped By ISIS Leader

Kayla Mueller, the American hostage killed while being held by ISIS, reportedly refused freedom to help two Yazidi girls and was systematically raped by the terrorist group’s leader.

According to a fellow captive, American hostage Kayla Mueller — who was allegedly killed by a Jordanian airstrike in February 2015 — was kept as the “private property” of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, while she was held in Al-Shadadiya, Syria. The disturbing report from the Independent sheds light on the terrifying conditions in which Mueller lived her last months.

Mueller and the Yazidi girls were held at the same time and kept for several months, after the American hostage was captured by ISIS in Sinjar, Iraq, in August of last year. A 14-year-old girl and her sister — who were held as sex slaves, according to U.S. investigators — managed to escape, but Kayla Mueller refused to join them thinking a foreigner would bring too much attention and endanger them while on the run.

The teen says that she saw the ISIS leader often and every time he was at the place where the hostages were being held, Kayla Mueller was taken away by him. According to the girl, the late American hostage would come back distraught, crying for what she says was the sexual abuse suffered at the hands of al-Baghdadi.

“I saw him often, he came there often,” she said. “And every time he came, he took Kayla away. She would always come back after.”

Counter-terrorism officials confirmed the reports and informed Kayla Mueller’s family that their daughter was raped by the ISIS terrorist. Much of the information was confirmed by Umm Sayyaf, the compound owner Abu Sayyaf’s wife, who was captured in a U.S. raid.

“We were told Kayla was tortured, that she was the property of al-Baghdadi. We were told that in June by the government,” said Kayla’s distraught parents, Carl and Marsha Mueller, who spoke exclusively to ABC News Friday and said their hearts were breaking for their “compassionate and devoted” daughter.

“We are so proud of the person Kayla was and the work that she did while she was here with us. She lived with purpose, and we will work every day to honor her legacy.

Kayla Mueller was working as a volunteer with Syrian refugees when she was captured by ISIS in the city of Aleppo in August 2013. The new revelations debunk the belief, by some U.S. officials, that Kayla Mueller was a willing participant and cooperated with her ISIS captors, which profoundly distressed her family.

Kayla Mueller would have turned 27 years old this Friday.
